Improved Method of Strength Analysis for Embedded Steel Penstock

Abstract:

In this paper, the authors took account for the elastic and plastic behavior of filled concrete and surrounding rock, the effects of initial geostress and secondary geostress caused by excavation and support, bending and shearing effects of steel lining subjected to internal water pressure. Besides, the penalty function is applied in the strength analysis for embedded steel penstock and the nonlinear FEM program is given. On the practical example of project, some valuable conclusions in scheme comparison are achieved.
