The safety factor is generally recommended by engineering grades and work conditions in current specifications,which does not consider the uncertainty of soil and different calculating methods.In view of this limitation,the MATLAB software is used to program the Monte Carlo method based on transfer coefficient method,improved transfer coefficient method,the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers method,Rohre law and simplified Janbu methods by using reliability analysis.The relationship between reliability index and safety factor is studied and the difference of safety factor among these different methods is discussed under the same reliability(or failure probability)by taking Monkey Stone landslide as an example.The results show that the safety factor should be recommended considering the different calculating methods and the variability of c andφ.
