The traditional compaction method is usually used in laboratory shear tests to prepare remoulding specimens.However,the disturbance for unsaturated clay remoulded by this method can be so large as to render the tests results meaningless.In order to solve such technical problems,a dehydration remoulding method was introduced to readjust the water distribution in the soil and simulate the natural dehydration process.A series of shear tests on undisturbed soil,traditional remoulded specimen and improved remoulded specimen was conducted.The results show that specimens prepared by the simple compaction is much lower in strength than that of undisturbed soil.While specimens prepared by dehydration remoulding method shows the similar strength variation under different saturation degrees and similar value with undisturbed soil.
