Improvement of Transformer Air Duct with Thermal-fluid Coupled Field Simulation by FEM

Abstract:

Temperature rise of the transformer is an important factor for influncing the normal operation,and appropriate improvement of the air duct could decrease the temperature rise.Firstly,two-dimensional finite element model of transformer is established,and the magnetic analysis of FEM is carried out to obtain equivalent heat generation of the model.With thermal-fluid coupled field FEM simulation of the model,the temperature distributions and hot spots location in the windings are obtained.Then,the scheme of air duct improvement is proposed based on the analysis of the results,and the improved model is recalculated.In the end,temperature distribution and hots spots are compared under two air duct structures,and temperature rise of the hot spots has an decrease of 15%,which verifies the effectiveness of the improvement scheme.
