Safety Evaluation and Comparison of Strengthening Schemes of A Generator Pier

Abstract:

To fulfill the requirements of increasing output and improving ventilation for a unit in a power plant,eight ventilation tunnels were excavated evenly from the concrete cylindrical generator pier.So the actual static and dynamic performances of the altered generator pier must be reevaluated.Two computation schemes based on whether the eight foundation plates at where the eight ventilation tunnels were excavated still bear the dynamic loads transferred from the unit or not,were chosen.And three cases of normal unit operation;three-phase short circuit and unit runaway were considered. The finite element technique was adopted in this paper to check the strength,rigidity and stability of the generator pier.Based on the actual economical and feasible conditions,three strengthening schemes were proposed and compared.According to the detailed analysis results,a final optimized scheme was determined to ensure safe operation of the power plant.
