Based on the finite element analysis ABAQUS software,three dimensional finite element arch dam model is established with combination of Meifeng double curvature arch dam.It studies the instability mode,progressive damage development process and abutment stability safety coefficient of arch dam.The safety factor with rigid limit equilibrium method is consistent in reduction coefficient with strength reduction algorithm in the physical significance.Furthermore,the numerical value is approximate and the permissible error is acceptable.
